Assembly

Assembly occupancies are those occupancies where people gather for religious, political, educational or entertainment purposes.  Some of the world's largest fires in terms on lives lost have occurred in assembly occupancies.  Early detection of fire and an orderly, safe evacuation of the occupants is the primary concern.

PLC has been involved with traditional engineering services such as conducting Code Compliance reviews as well as Fire Protection System Design.  Our design experience for places of assembly includes fire detection and alarm systems; smoke control; egress features; fire separation specification; as well as sprinkler systems.

In addition to these traditional services, we have also been involved in performance based evaluations and fire testing.  We have conducted performance based evaluations such as timed egress studies as well as modeling of fire and smoke spread.  The flammability of materials used in assembly occupancies is a major concern.  PLC has experience in selecting the appropriate material test to meet fire codes, identifying a test agency to conduct the tests and assisting in the interpretation of test results.
