Educational occupancies provide a unique mix of fire protection challenges. A wide variety of operations are conducted within a college or university setting. These operations necessitate various facilities, ranging from large computer labs to flammable liquid storage rooms, each with its own specific protection requirements.

 

PLC has provided traditional engineering services such as code compliance reviews and fire protection system design, for educational facilities.  To provide for acceptable fire safety in educational buildings, performance based solutions are often required to address unique building designs and/or building uses.

On August 12th, 1967, a fire at the Hydra-Matic plant in Livonia, Michigan, completely destroyed the facility, cost some $80 million in damages, caused the injury or deaths of a score of workers.
